✦ 𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐆𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐄𝐍 ✦ Back to school is coming up quickly! If you have a little one going into their first day of kindergarten it's good to prepare them for the culture shock, here are a few tips on how to do so:

✦ 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥- Before the first day some teachers invite families to visit ahead of time, we were able to volunteer at our school this summer. Join your child’s school’s page, it is a great way to meet other parents of students the same age. Take a trip to the school to see the building and the playground.

✦ 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬-  Literature is a great way to prompt a discussion about going off to school! The Calgary public library has great grab bags for back to school or for the first day of school and you can do curbside pick up!

✦ 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞, 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞, 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞- Learning how to get ready each morning for the trip to school takes time and practice. It's helpful to practice this before the actual first day. Pretend it's a school day, and go through the steps of getting up, dressed, fed, and out the door.

✦ 𝐆𝐨 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠- Back-to-school clothes and items are popular with little kids as well as big. It's not too early to start the ritual of shopping for special school outfits or a backpack. It doesn't have to be something expensive. Even a "new-to-you" item will have meaning when it is designated especially for back to school.

✦ 𝐒𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡- Time to start thinking about RESPs we have flexible plans for every families budget. Book a private appointment with us via phone, virtual call or in person to start the process. We are here for you, however you feel comfortable.

✦ 𝐄𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡- Keep your eye on retirement! With nursery walls to paint and breathing exercises to practice, your third trimester is not the obvious time to be saving for retirement, but if you’re planning on taking time off of work, make sure to stay committed to saving for not only the baby's future, but yours as well!

✦ 𝐍𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡- Cover your baby. Most health insurance companies allow new parents 30 days after delivery to add their newborn to their policy. Check with your carrier or human resources. In any case, it makes sense to get the enrollment form and start filling it out now, leaving blanks for the baby's name and birth date.
