Personal care for clients with dementia is a specialized area that takes patience and understanding.

Last week… not a good day for my client. We opted to cancel the appointment and reschedule.

This week… great day! She was happy, alert, singing and even spoke a few sentences to me. (Very rare because she has reverted back to her birth language which is not English).

I completed her manicure & pedicure, then she left the “salon” (her room) to go have dinner. It was a beautiful experience and she was so happy.

Some days are better than others and trying to force care makes it uncomfortable and can make it unsafe. My overall goal while caring for my clients is dignity, respect and kindness. No matter what stage we are at, we all need that.
