The Community Music Initiative CMI

Everybody say f**k! The Turrettes are a legendary pillar of the world we built for ourselves, a collection of fantastic people making some of the most fun music I know at a time when everything about the music community was changing, and we were doing our best to shape it in our own way. I can't even begin to talk about the number of times I found myself in the pit while Ben's unique manic voice swept us all along in a violent frenzy of profanity and dick-and-fart-jokes. Slowly, these people became my friends and later my family, and I am grateful for all of them. They were a cornerstone of all we built together, and their music still plays on my speakers a lot more often than perhaps if I were a fully formed grown up.

Real talk for a moment, I'm not sure how I'm gonna handle this show, and when I think about it, I imagine the millions of times I was in the pit with Scotty and so many other fallen friends slamming around and singing along to FU**IN EH MO********ER MO********ER FU**IN EH FU**IN EH MO********ER MO********ER F**K. It's a ridiculous thing, just silly young men existing in their own way, finding ways to make it through a world full of dumb s**t and bad sandwiches, but those moments mattered so much. And I'm happy to have one more, but also, I'm broken to have one more and not be able to share it with Scotty.

This Saturday, we are hugging and singing and cheersing and crying and feeling and saying our I love yous. Please join us and help us say our farewells. See you in the pit.

The Golers ( In**ed Militia ) have been a band I love for a very, very long time, and it's really easy to understand why when you see them play. There's just not many bands that can hold a candle to them when it comes to unrelenting thrash metal anarchy. The feeling of being in the room when they shred is second to none, and this is coming from a guy who sees a lot of bands, and a lot of bands that try to live in that same pocket. The Golers are something special. Their music has elements of metal and punk and all points in between, with a common theme of chaos and ... shall we say familial closeness?

It's tomorrow, folks. So much fantasticness. Bubblegum Breakdown with their first Calgary show! Bottom Feeder - Calgary, AB blowing your mind with mind blowing mind blows! Scum Dumpster coming in to dumpster your scum! and the hateful spiritual emptiness! And now, the legendary Golers. Tomorrow. We shall see you in the pit, but remember... When you gaze long into the mosh pit, the mosh pit also gazes into you. SPOOKY!

I f**king adore Scum Dumpster. They're just a ridiculously fun, cute, scummy punk band, and they're always a blast to catch on stage. One time, I even got to go on stage with them and sing pirate songs while being mercilessly murdered, and as much as that SOUNDS like it would be a real ass of a time, it was so good. This is a band that has personality in spades, both in the members and in the music they create. It's truly a hoot to get swept up in the vibe when they are playing, and I'm so glad they're joining us on the bill.

I know, you thought that this show couldn't possibly get cooler, but then you read this, and now you're all "But this has to be it, there's no WAY that this can't be done with all the awesome!" You fool! That's just what we wanted you to think! But when our pals The Golers come to town, we pull out all the stops and make sure to have a crazy night to remember! This Sunday comes soon! We'll see you in the pit!

Bubblegum Breakdown are coming! Our first band of the show are a brand new two piece that look an awful lot like pals we've known for years! But this is a brand new project and this will be their second show ever and first in Calgary, so you can say to your friends that you saw them before they became legendary! We're entirely excited to see the mayhem these two hooligans are ready to unleash on us all. I asked what sort of vibe we might be expecting and I was told that it's in the pop punk / metalcore vein, and so I'm curious as all heck to see what comes. I've watched these two evolve musically for a few years now, and I'm breathlessly anticipating enjoying my first change to see the new project shred.

The whole show is gonna be just a blast and a half, just a total kick ass night of awesome as we welcome our old pals The Golers back to town for a night of messy festivities. This one's worth feeling a bit sleepy the next day, folks. We'll see you in the pit!
