The auditions for Harvey Fierstein's Torch Song are complete, and what a wealth of talent came out to read for the available roles. Calgary has an incredibly deep pool of tremendous acting talent and you made our job of cast selection very hard indeed! Thank you to everyone who attended and we wish we could have cast all of you!

All but one of the cast, and many of the production team was at the first read through last night and we captured a few pictures of the event!

This script is truly spectacular and this cast was already bring us to a halt with laughs and deeply emotional scenes. Just wait until they really sink their teeth into this one!

Torch Song runs for 11 performances from October 1 to 10, 2026 in the Pumphouse Theatre's Joyce Doolittle Theatre.

Harvey Fierstein's Torch Song

October 1-10, 2026 at the Pumphouse - Joyce Doolittle Theatre

In Torch Song – the two-act revival of Harvey Fierstein’s award-winning Torch Song Trilogy – the life of Arnold Beckoff, a torch song-singing, Jewish drag queen living in New York City, is dramatized over the span of the late 1970s and 1980s. Told with a likable, human voice, Torch Song follows Arnold’s odyssey to find happiness in New York. All he wants is a husband, a child, and a pair of bunny slippers that fit, but a visit from his overbearing mother reminds him that he needs one thing more: respect.

Marian, or The True Tale of Robin Hood by Adam Szymkowicz

April 2-10, 2027 at the Pumphouse - Victor Mitchel Theatre

A gender-bending, patriarchy-smashing, hilarious new take on the classic tale. Robin Hood is (and has always been) Maid Marian in disguise, and leads a motley group of Merry Men (few of whom are actually men) against the greedy Prince John. As the poor get poorer and the rich get richer, who will stand for the vulnerable if not Robin? What is the cost of revealing your true self in a time of trouble? Modern concerns and romantic entanglements clash on the battlefield and on the ramparts of Nottingham Castle in this play about selfishness, selflessness, love deferred and the fight. Always the fight. The fight must go on.

Hello folks!

Scorpio Theatre's casino is coming up very soon, and while we have been able to fill up most of the spots, there are still a small number of positions that we need to get volunteers for.

Our casino is on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 14 and 15, at the Elbow River Casino. I just volunteered there for the Calgary Fringe, and had a fantastic time there. The FOOD! Yes you get a free meal and snacks for volunteering for a shift, and they have an expanded menu since the last time I was there and the food was awesome!
