There is something exciting about opening up a second home or seasonal property for the summer again.
The windows finally get opened. The fresh air comes in. Patio furniture gets uncovered. The property starts feeling alive again after a long winter.
But before settling in for the season, it is always worth taking a little extra time to properly check the property over.
After sitting vacant through winter and spring weather, even well-maintained homes can develop issues that are not immediately obvious. Small leaks, moisture buildup, HVAC problems, pest activity, storm damage, dead smoke alarm batteries, or issues with irrigation systems and outdoor equipment can all go unnoticed when a property sits empty for months at a time.
A few things worth checking:
• Run all taps and inspect for leaks
• Check windows and doors for moisture or drafts
• Test smoke alarms and security systems
• Inspect the exterior for winter or storm damage
• Replace HVAC filters and circulate stagnant air
• Check hot tubs, pools, irrigation systems, and outdoor lighting
• Look for signs of insects, rodents, or wasp nests
Taking the time to inspect things carefully at the start of the season can help prevent much larger problems later on.

Happy Victoria Day!
The unofficial kickoff to summer might feel a little unusual this year, especially with parts of Alberta waking up to snow this weekend. But we are not going to let that slow us down.
Summer is coming. We promise.
Long evenings. Warm weather. Endless sunshine. Patio season. Time at the lake. Backyard gatherings. Road trips. Golf rounds. Walks through the neighborhood. More time spent outdoors with family and friends.
There is something about this time of year that reminds people to slow down a little and enjoy life more.
Whether you are spending the day relaxing at home, opening up the cabin, travelling, or simply enjoying some well-earned downtime, we hope you have a safe and enjoyable Victoria Day.
Happy (almost) summer, everyone.

When a home is left empty, it does not take long for it to show.
Mail starts to collect. Garbage bins sit out. Lights do not change. There is no visible sign of activity.
These are the small things that signal a home is unattended.
This is where Home Watch comes in.
Home Watch is about making sure your home is not left completely on its own while you are away. It provides regular, in-person check-ins so that everything is being looked after and nothing is being overlooked.
At Acuity Advantage, we walk through your home, check that everything is in order, and make sure your property continues to feel cared for.
We also take care of the everyday details that help maintain that presence:
- Bringing in mail and garbage bins
- Adjusting lighting so the home does not appear empty
- Keeping things moving so the home looks lived in
- Picking up packages
- Watering th plants
- Completing a comprehensive inspection of each home
It is a simple concept, but it makes a meaningful difference. Your home continues to feel active, maintained, and looked after—even when you are not there.
And in situations like this, prevention is always cheaper than dealing with what can happen when a home is left completely unattended.

Happy May! If you have been feeling the itch to clean up around your home, you are not alone.
It is easy to focus on the obvious—closets, counters, getting everything looking fresh again. But some of the more important things are not always top of mind.
A few worth checking:
- Furnace filters (a big one after a long winter)
- Dryer vents and lint buildup
-Window seals and screens
- Gutters and downspouts
- Yard cleanup—especially brush or debris sitting too close to the house
- Outdoor taps and hoses for any cracks or leaks
None of these take long to check, but leaving them too long can turn into bigger (and more expensive) problems.
A good spring reset is not just about how your home looks. It is about how it is holding up after the winter.
