Save the date!

The glitz, the glamor, the intrigue! This entertaining read has it all, plus a compelling mystery to pull the reader quickly through. It’s hard for the people behind the people to realize their dreams, but Lou, Marnie, and Constance fight to be seen. These deliciously flawed characters may make some questionable decisions along the way, but is anyone perfect? And how else does one expect to succeed in such a cut-throat industry? Jouhanneau is an author I look forward to reading more from!

Last week, I ended up waiting 45 min. for a doctor’s appointment. I alternated between going on my phone and staring at the wall (because, lately, I’m tired of my phone). And all I could think was, I should have brought a book.

I used to take a book with me wherever I went, on the off chance that I would get a few minutes to read. When my kids were little and wouldn’t go down for a nap properly, I piled them in the car and drove around until they fell asleep, then I would pull over somewhere and read because this was before smartphones.

Today, I had another doctor’s appointment and this time I wasn’t risking 45 min. of brain rot, so I brought this beauty along. Of course I was in and out in ten minutes, but it was comforting to walk around with a book in hand!

Now, onto The Buffalo Hunter. I looked back at my review of The Only Good Indians and it seems that I’ve come upon the same problem. I struggle with Jones’ style of writing. I’m not going to go author-mode and explain why I think that is because more importantly, I force myself through. Now, this may not sound like a good time to a lot of readers, but Jones’ stories are worth it. The Buffalo Hunter perfectly exudes the creeping dread I love in horror, the kind that isn’t slapped in your face but slowly, slowly gets under your skin. He doesn’t shy away from the gory, but it’s done with a matter-of-fact style that actually makes it even more unsettling. Jones’ is such an immense force in literary horror with original tales to tell. I love him!
