To conclude my analysis of the Alberta Energy Pool Market, I decided to share my report, with The Ministry of Energy of Alberta for their comments.

Herein the letter response received. Page 1

Pool Price Market Analysis for August 2018

80% of the energy dispatched was generated using fossil fuels. 18% was generated using renewable sources. Energy imports and exports hardly banqueted the power generated in the province.

Dispatched imports were priced the same as the power generated in Alberta. It would seem that we could possibly take better advantage of low carbon, hydro power imported from BC and SK, if available.

Dispatched exports barely skimmed any power sent to Montana. The Province might be better equipped to control the balance between generation and load, hence MSP, by having more energy exported south of the border.

Based on latest data available from AESO, on the Energy Merit Order for August 23rd, 2018, the grid seems to be very stable, with 59 pool participants dispatching power, with prices oscillating within a very narrow band.

A histogram distribution shows there seems to be a based load around 7,000 MW and a peak close to 11,000 MW. These appears to be a theme for the month, still to be confirmed for the rest of the year, which might be very likely, or might even surpass that, during our cold winter season.

During the hot summer day reported, we imported between 10 to 400 MW and exported 75 MW for 3 hours at very profitable margin, by one single pool participant. Coal and gas generation seem to have a matching share, with a small renewable pe*******on, still, dispatched at a 100% during the day. Grid operators are channeling all wind power they can get to Alberta's grid, the data seems to show.
