How you treat a beginner on the court tells me everything about who you are off it.

Not how you treat the top seed. Not how you act when the coach is watching.

How you treat the person who just picked up a racquet for the first time.

Because the gap between how you treat the best player in the room and the worst player in the room — that gap is the exact size of your ego.

Sport is a mirror. The favoritism you show based on skill level is the same favoritism you show based on status, wealth, and reputation in the rest of your life.

This is your character being revealed. Not your talent. Your character.

The humble champion knows it is only the ego that enjoys the fame. The proud champion doesn't know that yet.
