Part 18 - Where’s the Breastmilk?
Clients have driven in from out of province and from the USA with their frozen breastmilk in a cooler so exposure to 9°C over 4 hours won’t melt it, neither will 10 minutes of 20°C temps… that is unless CFIA did not keep it in the protective coolers they left our facility with??
Like entire reports, “objective” findings and accusations CFIA has made against us… this subject too seems to have just silently disappeared.
The ironic part of this is… we are a small business and myself and my husband go to our facility at least once/day, weekends and all and we have 24/7 access to the temperatures of our freezers, but we were suspended based on their report that stated we do “not have an effective control measure to ensure product would not go into temperature abuse when facility does not have personal on-site”
Please help to share this story!!!
They need to be held accountable for their actions. Give the freeze dried breastmilk back to the mothers and tell us where the frozen breastmilk is. Breastmilk is not a bag of chips, this was perfectly safe, nourishing food for my clients’ babies that the CFIA unlawfully seized and mishandled.
Stay tuned for the next videos sharing what happened next…
PART 15: It’s temperature abused.
You KNOW one of my FAV things to do is to unbox and show the condition of the breastmilk and the temp. We take pride in the b***y shippers and follow the CFIAs guide to food safety, the government Food code, the AHS breastmilk storage guidelines and the ABM for short term breastmilk storage.
When we showed them photos, temp logs, and even videos of clients putting ice cubes in their shippers and arriving in the middle of July in 34°C weather with no state change in the ice cubes (showing no thawing in transit) the inspectors stated
1) -18°C is the regulations and
2) Not everyone ships with ice cubes.
In the report they also mentioned that clients putting ice cubes inside their shippers could melt the breastmilk. 🫠

Part 4: “Competitors do things better than you”.
As the first breastmilk freeze drying service in the world and the only regulated one (well… previously) the CFIA inspectors seemed to be privy to internal documents of u regulated, international companies that prove their methods are safer than ours.
When I ATIP’d this information from her and her team, it came back saying they had no documents related to competitors - a little “too quickly” I might add. They brought up my competitors on three different times. Again - them all being international and unregulated. The only “competitor” that I know of that does end product testing, does so in-house and checks for total plate count - in house testing wouldn’t fly with Health Canada.
This inspector, without even looking at one piece of paper before making this statement didn’t know we do environmental swab testing, air quality testing, water testing, light testing, randomized product testing (both for incoming frozen and freeze dried).
In their report, she states we never gave them lab results - Google drive is a wonderful thing where time stamps are shown for documents uploaded and submitted. Including environmental and pre/post product testing. 🤓
Interestingly, after making a checklist of documents we uploaded for them, which they repeatedly dismissed to complete - they told us to stop using Google Drive to upload documents… hmm
