Be diligent out there. A customer brought in some Perth mint and Pamp gold bars in assay. All were fake. They look really good. Once tested they were proven to be bad. The 20g was a full gram too heavy!
If in doubt, buy from a reputable dealer or meet somewhere that it can be tested.

It is with a heavy heart that I relay the news of a good friend and associate, Robert Kokatailo, who passed away late yesterday evening after a long battle with cancer. The numismatic community has lost a true student of the hobby and industry. Robert was an avid researcher who loved to share his stories and findings. Robert ran Calgary Coin from 1989 to 2024. May he rest in peace
