Canadian Kangaroo Regiment Archive

The all too brief and bittersweet War Diary entry of 20 June 1945 which marked the unceremonious end of the Kangaroos. 😢

A great day for a move. All clicked from the start.
Stores trucks left at 0730 hours - our vehicles left for ARNHEM (Holland) Demobilization Centre at 0845. The Orderly Room and Pay moved at 0945 and the men left at 1015 for No. 13 Canadian Base Reinforcement Battalion (via Royal Canadian Army Service Corps transport trucks).
The move was fine and there were no hitches. All personnel arrived at 13 Battalion at 1400 hours. Stores were turned in by 1600 and vehicles by 2100 hrs. A good days work and everyone is tired.
The Orderly Room staff will work full blast for another 72 hours, but officially we’ve had it. So ends the active service of our very fine Regiment. We wind up the Regimental affairs on a fine note. We can feel satisfied that we have done a good job and have played an integral part in our victory.
Thus, a soldiers’ farewell ends it all and we proceed to other Regiments and other duties.
On Authority from Headquarters First Canadian Army Troops Area, dated 17 June 1945 the 1 Canadian Armoured Carrier Regiment is Disbanded with effect from 2359 hours. 20 June 1945.*
Signed:
FWK Bingham, Major
A/Officer Commanding
