Whether you realize it or not, you are constantly modeling behaviours and reinforcing cultural norms inside your team … good or bad.

The question is: Do the norms you’re modeling and reinforcing cultivate psychological safety or not?

Do you REWARD or PUNISH employees who debate and offer unique perspectives?

If you want a culture of engagement, commitment, and excellence, this is an important topic to unravel. Only when people feel safe to question, challenge, and offer unique (even opposing) opinions, will you have a team reaching its full potential.

I’ll be speaking on the topic of Psychological Safety at SAIT’s Learn to Love Leadership Conference on June 27.

If you’ve never been to one of my classes or events, you’ll be happy to know that I’m not a typical “speaker.” I’ll have you rolling up your sleeves, doing great work on yourself, and learning to take what you discover back to your team. 30-day plan included!

A 2019 HBR survey* found that 58% of employees trust a complete stranger more than their own boss.
Excuse me?

Wanna hear something even more alarming?

45% of them cited their LACK OF TRUST IN LEADERSHIP as the single biggest issue impacting their PERFORMANCE at work.

Well that’s not good. It’s not good at all.

I’m guessing this isn’t actually breaking news to you, since 55% of CEOs believe that this crisis in confidence is a threat to their organization’s growth.

So it’s kind of a big deal.

And if this is equation true:

LACK OF TRUST = LACK OF MOTIVATION & PRODUCTIVITY

Then isn’t the inverse equation also true?

TRUST = MOTIVATION & PRODUCTIVITY

I work with TEAMS and ORGANIZATIONS to build trust and become more trustworthy (sometimes we unknowingly and unintentionally damage trust with the things we do). I can help you create Equation #2.

If your team is struggling and you’re not sure why - or if you know exactly why and want some help to get unstuck - I’d love to talk with you.

Do you love being a leader?
Hello? Anyone?
Are those crickets I hear?

Let’s be real. A lot of us start out in our careers thinking that a leadership role is the only role to aspire to. Quickly after being promoted to our first leadership position, we think “What the actual $%^&?” The role isn’t what we had imagined (feet up on the desk, coffee always hot, doling out brilliance to our employees). We quickly come to realize it’s full of frustration, difficult situations, and constantly trying to get your team to row in the same direction.

LEADERSHIP IS HARD.

If you’ve fallen out of love with leadership, SAIT has created this conference for you! The Learn to Love Leadership conference is an in-person event (yay!) on June 27 and I’m going to be speaking at it!

I love talking about psychological safety because I know how important it is for a productive and enjoyable work environment (really, any environment).

This is a chance to pause from your every-day and reflect on the relationships in your lives. Do you work in a psychologically safe environment? What does that even mean? What does it feel like? How can you help create it if your workplace isn’t safe?
