Are you newly pregnant and waiting to pull the trigger on hiring a doula? Honestly it’s never too early! Here are 5 benefits I’ve found clients to receive when they hire doula support early on in their pregnancy.

1. Relationship building. When you hire a doula early on, you have a chance to build a relationship. Your doula won’t be another stranger in the room when you give birth and they will be someone you’re comfortable with.
2. Long term planning. This gives us a chance to plan your birth and postpartum experience in a chill and unrushed way. Time also gives us a change to be flexible in this planning and discuss and consider options.
3. Guidance through appointments. Having an expert with you through this journey gives you access to information and support so you can confidently make prenatal decisions alongside your care team.
4. Time to pay down the fee. Sometimes finances are a barrier to doula support. Hiring a doula early means you have time to develop a payment plan and slowly pay down your fee. Chat with your potential doula during a meet and greet and see if it’s an option.
5. Emotional support. This may be the most beneficial thing about hiring a doula early. Having access to their emotional support during the ups and downs of all 3 trimesters is a gift and a reminder that your doula is just a call or text away when things are tough or deserving of celebration!🎉

You know that feeling of overwhelm, when you’re home, the nurses aren’t there, your baby’s crying but you can’t get them to latch properly. Your milk is changing and your b***s aren’t sure if you just had one baby or 3 so they fill up enough for 3 just in case. Your ice pad has melted and leaked on the couch or the staples on your incision keep catching on the mesh un**es. Your phone is blowing up with congratulations and excited offers to hold the baby. You have a cupboard full of bottles, a drawer full of soothers, and you truly just don’t know what to do because you’d like to breastfeed but you don’t know how and you keep hearing that these things will interfere with it.

I’d like to introduce a new offering. This support is specific to feeding (whatever way you are or want to feed your baby) and is separate from postpartum support. This feeding support is not medical and not judgemental. My goal is to help you reach your feeding goals-whatever they may look like. You are able to access my library of books on infant feeding, my big resource list, and my knowledge and experience of the tips and tricks that have worked for the dozens of families I’ve supported.
With the ok from your provider staff, I can join you at appointments where I can help put their advice into practice at home and be an extra set of ears to help remember the little things that are often forgotten.

Lastly, one of the most valuable parts of this support is the emotional and patient reassurance. To have someone sit with you through a feed, help you get comfortable, point out the signs that you’ve got a good latch and remind you of how amazing you’re both doing is often the missing piece when it comes to feeding.

I’ve done my best to make this as affordable and accessible as possible. Shifts will be booked at a minimum of 2 hours at a time and vouchers are available if you have a new parent in your life you’d like to gift some support to.

Did you know your doula can support you at prenatal appointments?

Today I had the pleasure of attending a midwife appointment with my client (who just so happens to be my adorable sister❤️)

If your partner is unable to attend your appointments with you, you’re allowed to invite your doula! So what does prenatal appointment doula support look like? Well your doula gets to meet your provider and become acquainted, there’s a lot of bag and paperwork holding for you, and they may also remind you of the questions you had written down.

Having a doula doesn’t mean you are only supported during labour, the prenatal support can be so valuable too!
