Our founder, Carie, was diagnosed at 13 months old with a rare tumour called Rhabdomyosarcoma. She was given a 10% chance of survival. Her mom was a single parent and pregnant at the time, and life changed overnight.

The experience didn’t just shape her health journey, it shaped everything that came after. The financial strain, the uncertainty, and what it means for a family trying to hold life together in the middle of crisis.

In 2008, she started Helping Families Handle Cancer with a simple belief: no family should have to face both a health crisis and financial burden at the same time.

Today, that belief has grown into over $2,000,000 in direct support to families navigating childhood cancer, all because Carie chose to turn her family’s hardship into impact.
