Great tour today with Calgary Climate Hub as part of Calgary Climate Week! Got Steve's helmet adjusted, hit Pixel Park, saw some great building art, learned about climate change mitigation efforts and met some genuinely great folks!

Over the past several years, Calgary Bike Swap has experienced ongoing conflict and increasing operational stress related to marketplace confusion and interactions surrounding one competing bicycle group operating in Calgary.

Today, we filed another police report regarding conduct we believe contributed to harassment and disruption associated with our events. This is now the fifth report we have filed over a period of years.

We are choosing our words carefully because we believe strongly in fairness, professionalism, and community accountability.

Our intention is not to inflame conflict or encourage hostility toward anyone. We are simply sharing the reality of what has affected us behind the scenes while many people have wondered why we seem exhausted and overwhelmed heading into Edmonton Bike Swap and why we were overwhelmed with exhaustion at Calgary Bike Swap.

Calgary Bike Swap's event should have been a positive and safe community gathering. We intentionally selected a non-City venue in hopes of minimizing ongoing tensions. Despite this, several attendees and volunteers reported uncomfortable interactions connected to the broader disputes that have affected our organization over recent years by this bike charity.

What saddens us most is that Calgary’s cycling community once worked collaboratively. For many years, organizations, volunteers, advocates, and cycling groups supported one another openly and respectfully.

That spirit has changed dramatically.

Instead of focusing entirely on helping families access affordable bicycles and supporting cycling accessibility, we are now forced to spend substantial time and resources considering legal options related to confusion surrounding our long-standing identity as Calgary Bike Swap and our copyrighted IP.

We remain committed to professionalism and respectful dialogue. We also remain deeply appreciative of the many volunteers, strategic alliances, attendees, and community members who have offered support and who have expressed willingness to share their truthful experiences if necessary.

At this time, our focus continues to be:
• Protecting the Calgary Bike Swap identity developed since 2011
• Maintaining safe, welcoming events
• Supporting the cycling community in a positive and ethical manner

Thank you to everyone who continues to stand beside us during this ongoing extremely difficult period. If you were approached at our Calgary Bike Swap event please let us know. Not that we need more ammo, but it's nice to know that we have support.
