Let me explain the bar chart. When we look at the number of years an addict is sober, what’s the threshold point this will reliably be maintained?

It takes a year before less than half relapse. And by 3 years, if you’re still sober, you’ll probably stay that way.

This doesn’t mean “one day at a time” and other recovery tools don’t apply after 3 years. It’s that the person has adopted these strategies into a new way of living.
