Mercury hasn’t been retrograde in Cancer since the summer of 2020. As it retraces its steps through this sign, memories we thought we had forgotten may begin to resurface.

Mercury in Cancer tends to process information through emotion because Cancer is ruled by the Moon. The Moon represents our emotional world, our body, our instincts, and often our relationship with our mother or other nurturing, feminine figures in our lives. Because of this, old emotional memories can be stirred, especially those connected to family, home, and the past.

The Moon also symbolizes the body, making this an important time to slow down and take care of our physical and emotional health.

As we move closer to the Dark Moon, more of this emotional material may rise to the surface to be acknowledged and processed. The New Moon in Cancer on July 14 offers an opportunity to begin a new emotional chapter, but first we may be asked to sit with some of the deeper feelings or shadows that have been waiting for our attention.
