Treasured Seeds ELC
Today, the children engaged in a creative and hands-on colour mixing activity.
The activity began with the introduction of primary colours—red, blue, and yellow—presented in paint pallets and paintbrushes. The children were invited to freely explore the materials, using brushes to mix colours on paper and observe what happened when different colours combined.
As they experimented, the children showed excitement and curiosity. Some noticed that red and blue made purple, while others discovered that blue and yellow created green. These moments of discovery were met with smiles, verbal expressions of surprise, and repeated experimentation as they tested different combinations.
Educators supported the learning by using open-ended questions such as, “What do you think will happen if we mix these two colours?” and “What do you notice now?” This encouraged the children to predict, observe, and reflect on their experiences.
This activity supported several areas of development, including cognitive development, fine motor skills, sensory exploration, and early scientific thinking. It also encouraged communication and social interaction as the children shared materials, ideas, and discoveries with their peers.
