Have you ever realized you've become the reminder system for your team?

A lot of directors think accountability means reminding people until the task gets done.

I don't.

To me, accountability means people own their responsibilities without someone else having to remember them for them.

The reminder becomes the system.

And before long, the entire centre is operating through the director's memory.

That isn't accountability.

That's dependency.

Circumstances that adults don't need to even think about are sometimes the circumstances that children struggle with the most.

Children are not born with the knowledge to be able to navigate every situation. If a repeated behavior is becoming a problem, consider vocalizing or even demonstrating the proper way to do it. Children follow in adults footsteps, so be the role model for them. If they don't take off their boots when they come in, do it with them. If they cry when parted from their device, show them how you respond when parted with your own.
Sometimes all children need is someone to explain how a situation should be handled.
