PCS Tech Tip: If a system supports MFA, turn it on. It is one of the most effective ways to prevent unauthorized access and reduce cybersecurity risks.

In seniors housing communities, protecting digital accounts is just as important as securing physical buildings. Many systems used every day—including nurse call platforms, Wi-Fi management tools, security systems, email accounts, and resident management software—contain sensitive information that could be targeted by cyber criminals.

One of the easiest ways to improve security is to enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) wherever possible. MFA requires a second form of verification, such as a code sent to a mobile device, making it much harder for unauthorized users to gain access even if a password is compromised.

Staff should also:

Use strong, unique passwords for each account.
Never share login credentials with others.
Be cautious of unexpected emails asking for passwords or account verification.
Report suspicious login attempts or phishing emails immediately.

A single compromised account can potentially expose resident information, disrupt operations, or create security risks. Taking a few minutes to strengthen account security today can help protect residents, staff, and the community as a whole.
