I first “met” Wakefield through a video of his spoken words shared online and then “met him in person” at the November’s Celebration for the Arts hosted by Mayor Gondek at the Jack Singer Concert Hall last year watching his performance. Contrary to his appearance, Wakefield on the stage was charismatic, soft and tender. His words immediately drew everyone’s attention - calling out social and environmental issues, mental health and wellness and racism.

From an addict to Calgary Poet Laureate, mental health advocate, community builder, entrepreneur, etc., it’s a beautiful and admirable journey. 🍃🍃🍃

Inspired by Black History Month and Women's History Month, April is marked as National Poetry Month to turn the attention of the world towards the art of poetry. There are many poet events in the city and Wakefield also hosts many workshops and performances throughout April. Visit his personal website at www.wakefieldbrewster.com for more information.
