I've been very quiet for most of 2023. Since closing up the shop in May I've been very quiet here - and for a couple of reasons! I started post-graduate school this Fall, and have had little time available for photography.

Aside from taking my camera with me when heading for walks, I hadn't done much photography since heading to Hawaii last January, except for a day in the Canadian Rockies in June 2023.

And this was one of my biggest rookie mistakes ever. As always, I imported my pictures after the day, and even sent a few sample shots to people. Then I formatted my memory card for my next trip out.

Two weeks later I came to edit my shots, and realized I'd managed to import the pictures back to the memory card I'd formatted... I was really excited about the pictures so naturally felt quite deflated to lose pictures I was looking forward to seeing.

I feared I lost them all, but after a few months -and thanks to a chance discussion on another Social Media app - I decided to try to recover the pictures. And got all but 1 back!

I've spent a couple days reviewing the pictures and submitting to Canadian Geographic's 2023 Canadian Photo of the Year competition. Entries are super high quality so not expecting anything, but the experience of picking out pictures is the best part for me!
