‼️ Important Announcement Alert ‼️
Our 3rd meeting scheduled for this coming Wednesday has been cancelled since we know a lot of people are busy with midterms and papers right now (if that’s you, good luck! We believe in you!) Keep an eye out for any updates that come out during reading break though! We have a fun announcement coming soon!

Hi everyone! My name is Evan and I am the president for SFU’s new club- Music for Memory!
The goal of this club is to act as a charity to fundraise for people living with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Any funds raised will go towards research and music therapy for this cause.
I was inspired to start this club after seeing directly, through my grandfather living with dementia, how music from one’s adolescence can act as a form of therapy. I would see my grandfather change from a vegetative state to being communicative, upbeat and more so mentally present, when I played his favourite songs from his youth such as Elvis or the Rolling Stones.
Research suggests that Alzheimer’s does not affect the part of the brain that associates memories to music. In this way music quite literally acts as a link to the past. In this way music can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. For this reason we will be fundraising towards records and record players for people living with Alzheimer’s or dementia, as well as research towards the cause. If you are interested in supporting us, regardless of if you attend SFU or not, please follow us! If you are an SFU member and are interested in joining us this cause please follow our page, DM our Instagram account, and/or sign up for the club on SFSS.
Our first event was Christmas Carolling in December where we raised $1500. We are looking forward to a possible karaoke event, as well as possibly creating playlists for seniors living with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Follow along for updates and event highlights!
