寝る (Neru) vs 眠る (Nemuru)
1. 寝る／寝ます (Neru / Nemasu)

“Neru” mainly refers to the action of going to bed or lying down. You use it when you decide to go to bed at night, or when you lie down to rest your body, even if you are essentially awake.

「寝る」は、主に「ベッドに入（はい）る」動作（どうさ）や、「横（よこ）になる」ことです。 夜（よる）にベッドに行くときや、たとえ目が覚（さ）めていても、体を休（やす）めるために横になるときに使います。
2. 眠る／眠ります (Nemuru / Nemurimasu)

“Nemuru” refers to the physical state of being unconscious. You use it when your eyes are closed, your brain is resting, and you are completely unaware of your surroundings.
「眠る」は、「意識（いしき）がない」身体（しんたい）の状態（じょうたい）のことです。 目が閉（と）じていて、脳（のう）が休（やす）んでいて、まわりのことが全（まった）くわからないときに使います。
