The weather looks like it has finally changed for the better and with that comes the start of Tasting In Motions backyard sessions. We are pleased to announce the first in a series of entertaining, educating and down right fun tasting’s.

These events will be blind tastings of 4-5 wines of the same varietal from all around the world; allowing us to discover together the differences in terroir and climate. The backyard sessions will begin Wednesday June 28, and we will kick off the series with my favorite, Pinot Noir.

The session will run from 6:30 till 9:00 and include light snacks. We will be tasting, describing and enjoying 4-5 Pinot Noirs from around the world and decide which one we enjoy the most. The cost is $25 pp and spaces are limited. To reserve your spot please email [email protected] call 905-464-2135 of Face Book Direct Message.

I had the pleasure of visiting North 42 Degrees Estate Winery Estate Winery in Colchester Ontario. They are one of 14 wineries that make up EPIC wine country in Essex County Ontario. While there we were entertained by Martin the proprietor and Leslie the resident sommelier. The facility is going under a major addition which I am looking forward to visiting once it is complete. Leslie took us through the full line up of their wines with a very detailed description of each. I was quite interested in trying the wines from this region as my experience of this region was limited. North 42 first planted vines in 2007 but their wines are complex and very balanced. We enjoyed all of the wines poured for us though the 2013 Pinot Noir was my personal favorite. Anyone who has the chance to be in this exciting wine region make sure north 42 is on the top of your list to visit.

As you shop at the LCBO one of the tips I can give you is to always look for the sale items. Every store has them in a different location and marked differently. These wine, liquor and beer products are marked down by 20% and offer some great finds for the adventurous. These items will have a black line through the bar code marking it as a sale item. Take advantage of these bin end items.
Todays finds:
Alpha Estate, Axia 2012 Syrah paid $12.65
Russian Standard Vodka Platinum paid $27.65

Some friends have decided its time to have a porch crawl and asked me to recommend some wines to go with this awesome idea. So Jill MacKay Tori Brock Jennifer Zielke Jennifer Walker Janet Sachade here are my 5 porch wines. All but one come from the Beamsville Bench as I thought it was an appropriate term for a porch crawl, you will all need a bench at some point! The first wine is from Colio Winery Lily Sparkling, this is a great start to any day on any porch. The next wine will be the Long Rows White from Rosewood Winery This blend of Riesling, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc is a refreshing porch suitable quaff. When you get to the third porch and are enjoying the walk and maybe the company open the Angels Gate Gewurztraminer the nose on this might knock you off the porch you are on but the palette will stand you right back up! By porch 4 you are thinking of Long Weekend Wine Co. from Fielding Estate Winery this chardonnay pinot grigio blend, well chilled pairs well with any porch. The final wine from Thirty Bench Wine Makers is there Double Noir. As the day comes to an end this Pinot and Gamay noir blend is the perfect finish to your porch crawl.
