Today, we share some heartbreaking news.
After exhausting every option available to us, we made the incredibly difficult decision to say goodbye to Ms. Puff.

Over the past several days, Ms. Puff began experiencing severe and uncontrollable seizures. Despite emergency veterinary care and medication, the seizures continued, and her prognosis remained uncertain. After careful consultation with veterinary professionals and many tearful discussions, we chose to give her the gift of peace.

This is the side of rescue that few people see.
Many people believe rescues can save every dog, no matter the circumstances. The reality is that we operate entirely on donations, and while our hearts want to say "yes" to every treatment, specialist referral, surgery, and diagnostic test, our financial resources simply do not allow it. We must constantly balance the needs of one animal against our ability to continue helping many others in the future.

These decisions never come lightly.
They break us down. They keep us awake at night. They leave us questioning ourselves and wondering "what if?" long after the decision has been made. The emotional weight is immense, and the grief is real.

Ms. Puff was only 12 weeks old, but during those 12 weeks she was deeply loved. She was cherished by her foster family in Manitoba, loved by our team here in Ontario, and already had an approved adoption application patiently waiting for her while we worked to understand the sudden medical condition that appeared out of nowhere.

The loss of a rescue dog creates a ripple effect. It affects the foster family who loved them, the volunteers who cared for them, the adopters who dreamed of bringing them home, the veterinary staff who fought for them, and the rescue that promised to do everything possible for them.
Today, we grieve for Ms. Puff.We grieve the future she deserved. We grieve the family who was waiting for her. We grieve the questions that may never be answered. And then, when we are ready, we will get back up and continue our work.Because that is what rescue is. It is celebrating the happy endings, carrying the heartbreak of the losses, and continuing forward for the animals who still need us.

Run free, sweet Ms. Puff. You were loved every single day of your life, and you will never be forgotten.

Thank you to everyone who kept her in their thoughts, cheered for her recovery, and supported her journey. We know many of you are feeling this loss alongside us.

In honor of Ms. Puff, we will continue fighting for the next dog who needs a chance.
