A question for parents, educators, and neurodivergent learners:
What is one thing you wish more teachers understood about neurodivergent students?
We’ll start:
Many students are already trying incredibly hard.
What can sometimes look like:
• Disengagement
• Procrastination
• Carelessness
• Lack of effort
… may actually reflect overwhelm, executive functioning challenges, processing differences, or anxiety.
Research continues to reinforce that neurodivergent learners often benefit most from:
✔ Explicit instruction
✔ Scaffolding
✔ Reduced cognitive load
✔ Predictable routines
✔ Psychologically safe environments
When we interpret behaviour accurately, we create better opportunities for learning, confidence, and long-term success.
We’d love to hear your perspective.

For many families, the idea of summer learning can feel overwhelming.
But effective support does not need to feel like “more school.”
The most effective summer support often focuses on:
• Rebuilding confidence
• Strengthening foundational skills
• Reducing stress around learning
• Creating successful experiences
• Helping students feel capable again
Research consistently shows that confidence and emotional safety play a major role in learning outcomes.
That matters especially for students who may have spent much of the school year feeling frustrated, discouraged, or behind.
At Evoke Learning, our virtual summer programs are designed specifically for neurodivergent learners and include support in:
✔ Reading Remediation
✔ Math Recovery
✔ Executive Function Coaching
✔ Writing Strategies
✔ Assistive Technology
✔ Postsecondary Transition Support
Programs are individualized, evidence-based, and flexible enough to work around summer schedules, travel, and cottage time.
June is often when families begin preparing for September, especially if the school year highlighted areas where additional support may help.
The goal isn’t perfection. It’s momentum.

By June, many neurodivergent students are not “checked out.”
They’re depleted.
After months of masking, managing overwhelm, navigating social expectations, and working twice as hard to meet academic demands, the end of the school year can feel emotionally and cognitively exhausting.
Research from the Harvard Center on the Developing Child has consistently shown that chronic stress and cognitive overload can significantly impact executive functioning, emotional regulation, and learning.
So what does this mean for parents and educators?
It means that what can look like:
• Avoidance
• Irritability
• Shutdown
• Lack of motivation
• Emotional outbursts
… may actually be signs of burnout.
And burnout is not solved through punishment or pressure.
Support starts with recognizing the difference between “won’t” and “can’t right now.”
Sometimes, the most important thing we can offer a student at this point in the year is recovery, validation, and an environment where they can experience success again.
For many families, summer becomes an opportunity to rebuild confidence, strengthen foundational skills, and reduce stress before September arrives.
At Evoke Learning, our virtual summer programs are designed specifically for neurodivergent learners who benefit from individualized pacing, targeted support, and evidence-based intervention.
Because confidence grows when students feel capable.

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, one reminder:
Learning doesn’t happen in isolation.
It’s shaped by how a student is feeling:
• Overwhelmed or supported
• Anxious or confident
• Stuck or clear on next steps
Research consistently shows that mental health and learning are closely connected.
👉 When we support well-being, we also support outcomes.

Progress doesn’t always look dramatic.
For many students, it looks like:
• Starting without being asked
• Using a strategy (even once)
• Asking for help before shutting down
• Finishing part of a task
These are signs that key skills are developing:
• Task initiation
• Self-monitoring
• Emotional regulation
Research shows that confidence grows from successful experiences, not pressure.
👉 When we recognize small wins, students are more likely to repeat them, and that’s what builds independence.
