It is with profound sadness that we remember Life Member Raymond Wilson, who passed away on May 24, 2026.

Raymond's connection to the Ancaster Agricultural Society spanned decades. A Past President, dedicated Director, committee member, exhibitor, volunteer, mentor, and friend, he devoted countless hours to supporting agriculture, the Ancaster Fair, and the people who make our community strong.

A passionate advocate for youth, Raymond believed deeply in encouraging the next generation. Through his lifelong commitment to 4-H, sponsorship of youth competitions, and willingness to share his knowledge, he helped shape the lives of countless young people across our region.

Those who knew Raymond will remember not only his wisdom and dedication, but also his infectious laugh, his wonderful singing voice, and the remarkable depth of knowledge he carried about agriculture, our Society, and the history of the Ancaster community. His steady presence, practical insight, and quiet support will be greatly missed.

Our sincere condolences are extended to Raymond's family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by his generosity and friendship.

A celebration of Raymond's life will follow the funeral service on Monday, June 1, at the Ancaster Fairgrounds in Marritt Hall.

Thank you, Raymond, for everything you gave to our Society, our community, and our youth.

(Visitations: Dodsworth & Brown Funeral Home, 90 Garner Road May 31, 5pm to 9pm, Funeral Service June 1 11am in the funeral home chapel)

Happy Victoria Day from the Ancaster Agricultural Society 🌷

Victoria Day celebrates the birthday of Queen Victoria, who was born on May 24, 1819. After Confederation, the holiday became an official celebration across Canada and has remained a Canadian tradition ever since.

But why do so many Canadians call it “May 2-4” when it rarely actually falls on May 24th?

The holiday is celebrated on the Monday before May 25, meaning it can land anywhere from May 18–24. Over time, “May 2-4” became the nickname for the long weekend, partly because of the date, and partly because a case of beer contains 24 bottles. 🍁

For many Canadians, Victoria Day weekend marks the unofficial start of summer:
🌱 Gardens get planted
🚜 Fields are busy
🏕️ Campgrounds open
🔥 BBQs are fired up

However you spend the long weekend, we hope it’s filled with sunshine, fresh air, and good company.

Happy Victoria Day & Happy May 2-4!
