Breaking ground - another build to commence. Planning out the location, setting the grades, preparing the site, and moving dirt in the right directions to be efficient are all part of the process. Good excavation supports efficient construction but also a better end product. Never regret setting a build too low or not having the right subsoil or aggregate base. The first decisions on site are critical to what follows.

“Wow, the cows are very clean!”
“I need to look into the pack more, this barn is making me rethink”.

Those are repeated comments heard at the “Dairy Modernization” seminar and barn tours that featured a dairy barn build we completed in 2020. A dairy barn with pack housing, free traffic flow dairy milking robots, tunnel ventilation - a simply build in many ways. Yet, very effective. The cows are extremely comfortable, thus also productive. The manure pack management might have been an art, but in this barn it has become a science - well managed well, so that the pack has good culture within for compost, yet dry - resulting in comfort, freedom, and a dry pack bed.

A barn that caused for reflection.

Rebuilt. Yes it appears to be 150 years old. But new timber barn to grace to countryside once again. Set on a refurbished original traditional stone foundation.
