A Summer Job Should Build a Future—Not Exploit It
Many young people seek summer employment to earn money, gain experience, and build independence.

Unfortunately, traffickers may use fake job opportunities, modeling offers, social media recruitment, or promises of quick cash to target vulnerable individuals.

Before accepting a job opportunity:
✔️ Verify the company exists.
✔️ Research the employer.
✔️ Be cautious of offers that seem too good to be true.
✔️ Never share personal documents with unverified recruiters.
✔️ Tell someone you trust about interviews and new opportunities.

Let's empower young people with the knowledge to recognize manipulation before it becomes exploitation.
Knowledge saves lives.

Not Every Summer Memory Is Safe
Summer brings concerts, festivals, fairs, sporting events, and vacations.
While these experiences create wonderful memories, they can also create opportunities for traffickers who seek crowded environments where vulnerable individuals may be isolated, approached, or groomed.

Warning signs can include:
• Someone suddenly controlling another person's movements
• Excessive monitoring of phones or communication
• Isolation from friends or family
• Unexplained gifts, money, or travel opportunities
• Relationships that seem unusually intense or secretive

Human trafficking can happen in any community, regardless of age, income, race, or background.

When communities stay informed and look out for one another, we create safer spaces for everyone.

The SafeHope Home family recently celebrated the remarkable career and retirement of Chief Jim MacSween.

Chief MacSween has been far more than a supporter of our organization—he has been a true champion for survivors of human trafficking and gender-based violence.

When SafeHope Home needed support, he answered the call. Through his leadership and generosity, he connected us with an incredible philanthropist whose kindness transformed our new home. Together, they helped ensure our residence was renovated, fully furnished with beautiful new furniture, and equipped with enhanced security measures, creating a safe, welcoming, and dignified space for the women and children we serve.

His support didn’t stop there. Through initiatives like Holiday Heroes and countless other acts of generosity, Chief MacSween, his colleagues, and community partners helped bring hope, joy, and practical support to survivors rebuilding their lives after unimaginable trauma.

Chief MacSween has always understood that policing is strengthened through partnership, compassion, and community. His unwavering commitment to collaboration has left a lasting impact on SafeHope Home and, more importantly, on the lives of the women and children who have found safety, healing, and hope within our walls.

On behalf of our Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, and the survivors we have the privilege of serving, thank you for your friendship, your leadership, and your steadfast belief in our mission.

Congratulations on your well-deserved retirement. We wish you and your family every happiness in this next chapter and hope you know that your legacy will continue to be felt in every life touched by the opportunities, partnerships, and hope you helped create.

With deepest gratitude,
The SafeHope Home Family 🤍

Trafficking teaches people to doubt themselves. To silence their instincts. To believe their value depends on what they can give, endure, or survive.
Recovery is the opposite of that.

Recovery is learning:
🌿 that “no” is a complete sentence
🌿 that your body belongs to you
🌿 that rest is not weakness
🌿 that healthy love does not require fear
🌿 that your past does not erase your future

Some days healing looks powerful. Other days it looks like simply getting out of bed, setting a boundary, or choosing not to go back to what hurt you.
Self-love after exploitation is not selfish. It is resistance. It is reclaiming the parts of yourself that trauma tried to take away.
You deserved love before the trafficking.
You deserve love during healing.
And you will deserve love for the rest of your life. ❤️

When a survivor of trafficking finds the strength to testify in criminal court, it can look like the “end” of a story from the outside.

A verdict is reached. A sentence is given. The case closes.
But for many survivors, that is not the end at all.

After survivors of trafficking testify against their abusers in criminal court, formal support often ends. The case file is closed, the legal process moves on, and systems shift their attention elsewhere. Yet trauma does not follow the same timeline.

It doesn’t end when the gavel falls.

It shows up in the quiet moments afterward—when the adrenaline fades and the weight of what was spoken out loud finally settles in. It shows up in the body, in sleep, in trust, in safety, in the long and uneven process of rebuilding a sense of self.

Testifying can be an act of extraordinary courage. But courage should not be mistaken for recovery.

Survivors deserve continuity of care, long-term mental health support, housing stability, and trauma-informed resources that extend far beyond the courtroom.
Justice is not only about conviction. It is also about what happens after.
Because healing doesn’t end when a case does.
