Hydro Belize is proud to be an annual supporter of the important work being done to protect Belize’s Scarlet Macaw population in the Chiquibul–Maya Mountains.

We commend Friends for Conservation and Development (FCD) for their continued dedication to research and conservation efforts that are helping strengthen the macaw population and protect one of Belize’s most important ecosystems.

Protecting our natural environment is central to our mission, and we are proud to support initiatives that help preserve Belize’s biodiversity.

We wish the FCD team another successful year in their ongoing efforts to conserve the Scarlet Macaw.

By the early 2000s, it was estimated that approximately 250 scarlet macaws were left in Belize. Today, after an intensive conservation effort of 14 years, the population has grown and observations of these majestic birds appear more frequent across the expanse of the Chiquibul-Maya Mountains.

Thanks to the permits provided by the Forest Department, research and biomonitoring activities have continued since 2012 through FCD’s Research Unit. Hydro Belize Limited has been an annual supporter of the protection of these birds, and FCD is proud to be their partner in the quest to improve the national population of macaws. With the support of Hydro Belize Limited and others, the survival of this species is being secured
