🌿 Our Languages Are Part of Our Heritage
When visitors come to Belize, they often admire our ancient Maya temples, forests, caves, and traditions. But one of our greatest treasures is something they cannot always see—the languages that still connect communities to their ancestors.
The Mopan Maya language, spoken in Belize and Guatemala, carries generations of knowledge, stories, place names, traditions, and ways of understanding the natural world. Yet researchers consider the language endangered, making preservation efforts more important than ever.
As tour guides, we are more than interpreters of history. We are storytellers, cultural ambassadors, and custodians of Belize's heritage. Every time we share the meaning behind a Maya place name, explain a traditional practice, or encourage visitors to learn a Maya greeting, we help keep that heritage alive.
The Cayo Tour Guide Association (CTGA) celebrates the rich cultural diversity of Belize and recognizes the importance of preserving our Indigenous languages and traditions for future generations.

💧🌿 Congratulations to Gwendolyn Galvez
We are proud to see CTGA member and supporter Gwendolyn Galvez featured as part of the Miss Earth Belize 2026 Elemental Beauty Series.
Beyond the artistry and creativity showcased in this project, Gwendolyn continues to demonstrate a commitment to environmental awareness, community involvement, and representing Belize with pride.
As tour guides, we understand the importance of protecting the rivers, forests, wildlife, and marine environments that make Belize unique. It is encouraging to see young Belizeans using their voices and platforms to promote stewardship and sustainability.
We applaud Gwendolyn and the Miss Earth Belize team for highlighting the beauty of nature while encouraging environmental responsibility.
Keep shining and continue making Belize proud. 🇧🇿💙🌊
Inspired by the four natural elements, Earth, Water, Fire, and Air, this official Miss Earth Belize headshot series transforms environmental symbolism into wearable art. Through bold makeup application, airbrushing techniques, textures, crystals, pigments, and organic detailing, each delegate embodies the beauty, strength, and essence of nature in a uniquely artistic way.

Respect to FCD and everyone who came out to do this work. 🙌
55 bags of trash is no small thing… and it says a lot.
As tour guides who use the Mopan River regularly, we see both sides of this — the beauty people come here for, and the impact when it’s not respected.
This river is not just scenery.
It’s part of our livelihood, our environment, and our community.
Every time a visitor steps into a canoe, swims, or simply sits by the river…
that experience depends on it being clean, healthy, and alive.
So while we appreciate the cleanup efforts, it’s also a reminder:
This responsibility doesn’t start on cleanup day.
It starts with everyday choices.
Respect the river.
Respect Belize.
And to those doing the work — thank you for protecting something that all of us depend on. 🌊🌿
