Rena le mathata as a country. Service standards have simply collapsed. It does not matter where one goes. The private sector or public sector. In yester years it was commonly agreed that the public service must set high standard of service delivery and other sectors will follow. These days there are simply no performance standards. Individuals and corporate entities face huge financial and opportunity costs in trying to do business in the country or simply in trying to imptove their own lives. The economy suffers especially by way of job opportunities lost. It's past time that as a people we went back to the cross roads to establish the basic standards of both personal and organisational performance. In my experince this is a leadership issue at both organisational and at national levels. Both organisations and countries have a performance culture which develops over many years. It is this poor performance culture that must change before any organisation or country can make real progress. Suffice to.point out that this will not be walk in the park to change entrenched habits largely carried by individual or a group of workers in an organisation or country who perpertuate the culture. That's where we are as a country. Our leaders must fold their sleeves and systematically and urgently address the prevailing national situation. Dealing with peripheral issues or fiddling at the edges will not cut it. Such an effort might not win popularity contests in the short term But that's the bitter medicine the country needs at this time. Otherwise our country is doomed. Sad to say.
