Spur-winged Goose

Africa's largest waterfowl, the Spur-winged Goose is easily recognized by the sharp spur on each wing and its striking black-and-white plumage. Common around Botswana's wetlands, this powerful bird is a symbol of the rich birdlife that thrives in our wild spaces.

From the Consafarity logo story to the story behind the Knyphausen Foundation...

Last week, we shared the story behind the Consafarity logo—built on the values of Conservation, Safari, and Sharing, and inspired by a family heritage that found a new home in Botswana.
But the story doesn't end there.
The Knyphausen Stiftung logo tells the story of two worlds coming together.
In its complete form, the logo features two lions facing one another. One lion represents the family's European heritage, rooted in Germany. The other represents Africa—the continent where founder Theda found not only a new home, but also her heart and purpose.
Together, the two lions symbolize a bridge between Germany and Botswana—a partnership built on trust, conservation, education, and long-term commitment.
While the Knyphausen Stiftung is based in Germany, its work comes to life in Botswana. The foundation supports carefully selected conservation and community projects that are implemented and personally overseen by Theda and her local network of trusted partners. This ensures that every contribution creates a direct, transparent, and lasting impact where it is needed most.
Through Consafarity, every guest makes a mandatory conservation contribution, with 100% of these funds flowing to the Knyphausen Stiftung and, from there, directly into projects that protect Botswana's wildlife, landscapes, and communities.
For us, travel is more than visiting extraordinary places. It is about building meaningful connections between people, cultures, and nature—and creating a legacy that will benefit future generations.
Next week, we'll show you exactly how these contributions are put into action and introduce some of the inspiring projects your journey helps make possible...

Today, we're taking our audience on a journey through the story behind the Consafarity logo!

The name Consafarity is a combination of three core values: Conservation, Safari, and Sharity. However, "Sharity" in Consafarity goes beyond the traditional meaning of giving. It is inspired by the idea of sharing—sharing knowledge, experiences, opportunities, and resources to create a positive impact. Every Consafarity guest contributes a mandatory donation, with 100% of these funds directed to conservation and community projects in Botswana through the Knyphausen Stiftung.

At the heart of the logo is the lion, a symbol deeply connected to the founder's heritage. The lion originates from the family's coat of arms, representing over 450 years of family history rooted in East Frisia, Germany. Traditionally depicted as a black lion on a golden background, it has been transformed into an African lion on a savannah-inspired landscape, symbolizing a journey from ancestral roots to a new home in Botswana, where Theda is living since 2012.

Through its name and emblem, the Consafarity logo tells a story of heritage, conservation, meaningful travel, and shared responsibility—inviting guests not only to experience Africa, but also to help protect and preserve it for future generations.

Stay tuned for next week as we uncover the special connection between Consafarity and the Knyphausen Foundation!!!!!!!
