The Industrial Court of Botswana appeared before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to present its performance and progress.

Addressing the committee, Accounting Officer Mr. Tefo Goitseone Bogosi outlined the court’s mandate of resolving labour disputes, promoting sound industrial relations and ensuring access to justice in employment matters.

Mr Bogosi reported that during the 2022/23 financial year, the court registered 1,346 cases and completed 1,277. Pending cases increased to 1,181, while the backlog rose slightly from 91 to 93 cases. He attributed the delays mainly to frequent postponements and challenges faced by self-represented litigants.

To improve efficiency, Mr. Bogosi said the Court strengthened Judicial Case Management and initiated the development of a Digitised Case Management System. He added that virtual hearings and electronic filing systems continued to support service delivery despite technological challenges. Mr Bogosi further highlighted the court’s investment in staff development through international and virtual training programmes.

Financially, Mr Bogosi said the court utilised 98.4 percent of its recurrent budget, spending P40.61 million of the approved P41.26 million, while development funds were directed towards modernisation initiatives.
