🔴 Episode 27
INTERIOR. LEDUMANG, THUSKA'S PLACE, GABORONE - DAY
Thuska is alone in the sitting room, his one leg is rested on the coffee table. He has stitches on his face, his skin is bruised. The television is on but Thuska seems drifted away by his thoughts. A knock startled him, his couch is close to the window he jumps up and groans as he peeks outside. Making sure he is not spotted he slightly moves the curtain. His tension calms...he walks to the door and opens...
THUSKA
O batlang?
(He checks outside.)
Tsena!
CHOPIRO
Sure grootman. Eish ne ba bua majita mo kasi, ne ke sa itse gore ne ba raya o gobetse jaana.
(Thuska walks to the couch and sits, he grabs the remote and flips through channels without looking a bit at Chopiro.)
THUSKA
Go bua mang?
(Now, feeling a bit welcome, Chopiro takes a seat.)
CHOPIRO
Eish hardie brayam, dilo tsa leng kante?
THUSKA
(He now looks at Chopiro.)

CHOPIRO
Ah Black ga ke ise ke kopane le ene fandag. Ga ise a tsene jaana?
THUSKA

(He keeps changing channels.)
Wa re o batlang?
CHOPIRO
(He takes out 200p**a notes out of his pocket.)
Spane se ke neng ke se tshwere se fedile...
(Thuska looks at the cash Chopiro is holding.)
THUSKA
How much is that?
CHOPIRO
Ke 2 gran bra, mara o ka ichekela...
(Chopiro hands the cash to Thuska who starts counting.)
THUSKA
(Pauses.)
A shorta ka 200 p**a...
(He looks at Chopiro.)
A mangwe a kae? Akere wa re spane se o neng o se tshwere se fedile...
(Chopiro looks at the cash in Thuska's hand.)
CHOPIRO
No Thuska...zaka tseo ke 2 gran. Ke sure...
(Thuska throws the cash on the table and looks at Chopiro.)
THUSKA
O batla go ntlwaela Chopiro!
(Chopiro starts calculating the 200 p**a notes scattered on the coffee table.)
Nkadime phone ke leletse Black...
(Chopiro unpockets his phone and hands it to Thuska.)
CHOPIRO
A tshwanetse go dira 2 gran...
THUSKA
(Takes the notes from Chopiro. He takes a few on top of the table.)
O tla tsaa phone ya gago o tlisitse zaka yam...
(He puts the phone and the cash in his
pocket and continues watching the TV. Chopiro sits as words only remain in his mind. He looks at Thuska...)
CHOPIRO
Ao brayam...o nzalla phone?
THUSKA
Bona Chopiro...o tla tsaa phone ya gago fa o tlisa 200 p**a yo shortang.
(Chopiro stands, knowing he cannot do much, he walks towards the door. He stops before leaving.)
CHOPIRO

(Thuska keeps quiet as he looks at him leave the house.)
MEANWHILE...
There is a spot, a house that looks hardly used or have residents. It's one of the abandoned houses in Gaborone. Razor walks in and finds four young guys waiting inside the cracked house...
RAZOR
Anything from that Thuska idiot?
(Black stands...)
BLACK
No boss...motho yole o lapile. Ga itse sepe...
(Razor looks at the other two guys: it's
Thuska's workers...)
THUSKA'S WORKER 1
How far brazene?
RAZOR
We got work to do...we have to get rid of any ways that can lead him to us, well to me.
THUSKA'S WORKER 2
Ra utlwa motsadi, but how far with the stuff...re bona zaka leng?
RAZOR

RAZOR

(Black nods. Razor walks closer to him.)
RAZOR (CONT'D)
This is a very tricky game. It's either you trust me or you don't, but then again if you don't trust me I guess ga o tshepe the way I run things here...
(He stares at Black.)
Are we going to have a problem with that, Black?
(Black shakes his head, he looks at the others in the room, all keep quiet...)
BLACK
O go a nna jalo motsadi...
RAZOR
Good!
(Looks at Thuska's worker.)
You two, keep a close eye on him. Everyone will have a share of their work. Remember we play it safe, we run it!
(Black peeks outside, they all prepare to leave the house except Razor. He looks at Black and beckons...)
BLACK
(Approaches)
Sho bro...?
RAZOR
(Collars Black.)
Don't ever do that again. You already got yourself into this, don't get cold feet because Thuska is your boy. You hear me?
(Black chokes on his saliva for a moment.)
BLACK
Sa la ke emisitse botsala jwa me le Thuska...o ntsaa jaaka bari.
RAZOR
(Releases his grip.)
Well...good!
(One of Thuska's employers gestures with his hand at the door. Razor walks towards him and nods. He glances outside before walking out of the abandoned house. Razor, walks across the street, leisurely walks down the street to his car parked along the curb.
Back inside the abandoned house, Black is pacing around...)
BLACK
Ah don dae ! kante ene o tsaa gore ke mang...
(Thuska's other employee looks at him...)
THUSKA'S WORKER 2
O bua vare Black. This guy is full of himself.
(He looks at the young man who has been sitting on the couch armrest the whole time.)
Kana jang ntwana...?
(The young man cowers in the couch, he doesn't know what to say as he keeps looking around the room.)
(Thuska's worker 2 peeks through the broken window. RAZOR IS OUT OF SIGHT!)
THUSKA'S WORKER 2
What if ne a le reeditse dimatla ke lona! How do you plan on doing something yet you can't get past the first step...ALWAYS CHECK IF THEY ARE AROUND!
(He walks towards them...)
Razor o spanela Bra Seleka. Ke sure all of you have met that man...
(The young man nods his head.)
Razor is his most loyal servant. What do you think will happen if he finds out we did something to Razor...huh?
(They all keep quiet. The young man remembers Rre Seleka's gun pointed at Thuska...a memory that makes him fidgety.)
BLACK
(At the young man)
Jaanong wena?
YOUNG MAN
Bra Shilo o bua nnete...
(Shudders)
Bra yele ke terror straight dibra tsame eish.
THUSKA'S WORKER 2
(He looks at his workmate then at Black.)

(Walks towards the door)
Best ntse re tswa dah. Zaka ya rona e tla goroga malaitiak...tse dintsi a re tsweng mo

(He opens the door, the young man walks towards it as well. They leave, Thuska's employer 1 follows them. Black stands and watches as they walk to the street. They take separate directions. Thuska's employers walking towards the same direction. The young man disappears between houses. Black finally leaves...)
EXTERIOR. THE CHILUME RESIDENCE, TUTUME - SAME TIME
The old woman is under a shade. She is with her age mate and friend, they are having a conversation about Rre Fidzani's family event that happened a week ago.
Taboka walks in the yard. He is trying to walk normal but stumbles and avoids their eyes. They all look at him as he stumbles to his
hut.
Just as he reaches the entrance...
OLD WOMAN
Kwa tini o si nga ende zwibuyanana wali? Wa bo u si ngati no enda ko Gaborone wali?
(Taboka says nothing and walks inside his hut. The old woman gets up and steadily walks to Taboka's room. She stands at the door and looks at him, he is laying on the bed...)

🔴 Episode 26
A WEEK LATER;
Detective Puso has found success in his second arrest, only difference was that his second arrest of Dema Chakalisa, Kagiso Dintwa, Lame Wilson and Theo Seleka, was an official arrest. The friends stand on charge of hit and run, causing a man his life and driving under the influence of alcohol.
FOUR UNIVERSITY OF BOTSWANA STUDENTS HAVE BEEN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH THE HIT AND RUN LEAVING A MAN DEAD THAT HAPPENED MONTHS AGO.
It reads on the Mmegi newspaper, open between Rre Seleka's hands. He is in his
office. It had been a week of calls and questions surrounding Rre Seleka on his son's arrest. A man of his stature, must make all this disappear before it gets out of hand. He thought.
Rre Seleka calls the officer in charge:
ON THE PHONE:
RRE SELEKA
Who made the arrests?
OFFICER IN CHARGE
(Reluctant to say)
Detective Puso...
RRE SELEKA
(Angrily)
The same detective...I told you last time when I call again I want it handled. This shouldn't have happened Sheriff! Now you're going to have to do something about that Detective and the case. Clear my son's name out of the case, otherwise I will handle it myself...
OFFICER IN CHARGE
I will have a word with the detective. It should clear off soon.
(Rre Seleka ends the call. Officer in charge leaves his office and walks inside a room next to the interrogation room. He watches and listens through the glass.)
INTERIOR. INTERROGATION ROOM, BROADHURST POLICE STATION, GABORONE
- MORNING
The four friends are yet again back inside the room they know very well. It is quiet...four of them facing the detective on the other side of the table.
DETECTIVE PUSO
Do you kids know what it really means being here?
(The four friends who have not seen each other in a week, all keep quiet.)
We have been through this before...the silent treatment but here you are back in my little room.
(No words from either the friends.)
DETECTIVE PUSO
You three...
(Points at Kagiso, Lame and Dema)
..are under arrest for involving yourselves in carrying and hiding a dead man's body.
(He looks at Theo.)
You are under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol leading to the hit and run that caused a man his life. How long that should be? Well it's up to the courtroom to decide that.
(The friends now realises what this could mean. Their futures are already crumbling as tears build up on Lame's eyes. Dema keeps shaking his head and moving his legs a lot. Kagiso looks at Lame.)
THEO
What? I didn't do anything!
DETECTIVE PUSO
(At Theo)
Well tell that to the house of law. I'm just doing my job here kid.
(The room darkens for the four friends. The trio, Kagiso, Lame and Dema avoid Theo's eyes all the time.)
THEO
Are you serious...my father is a lawyer, he will get me out of this. He will sue you!
DETECTIVE
Your father I guess you mean Rre Seleka? Kid, you can say all that in the courtroom. Your friends confessed that you were driving that night from a party and forced them to do your evil deeds because you threatened them.
(Theo looks at his friends in shock; he can't find words to say or maybe does not know how to say them.)
THEO
(Looks at Lame)
Lame...you know I wasn't driving that night. How could I have been driving when I had so much alcohol.
(Looks at Dema)
Dema tell him!
(Dema keeps quiet.)
KAGISO
You didn't want any of us to drive your car that night.
DETECTIVE PUSO
Do you usually drive his car?
KAGISO
No...
(Kagiso slightly nudges Lame under the table.)
LAME
No...I have never driven his car.
DEMA
Le nna...le yone licence I don't have it detective.
THEO
Ao monna Kagiso...
(Looks at the detective)
I don't even remember how I got that bumper damaged Detective. Kagiso was too eager to get it fixed maybe he knows something...
(Detective Puso looks at all of them.)
DETECTIVE PUSO
It will be best if you cooperate with the law authorities. It will be quite important for all of you. What you kids did is cruel...you should
have just contacted the police but you took a wrong choice and this is what you deal with.
(Detective Puso leaves the friends in the room. The officer in charge leaves the room and meets him on the hallway.)
OFFICER IN CHARGE
I need a word with you detective.
DETECTIVE PUSO
I'm just doing my job...I believe we already talked about it.
(The detective walks away leaving the officer in charge in the hallway. He watches the detective walk to his office.)
(Inside the interrogation room, Theo is looking at his friends in disbelief.)
THEO
Why are you not telling the truth...why are you doing this?
(They keep quiet...)
Lame?
DEMA
I think they might be listening...
THEO
Monna Dema I don't care. You guys probably know what happened. I didn't hit no man!
KAGISO
Just keep quiet...you will only make it worse.
THEO
You got to be kidding me! After this I'm making a call to my father. This is not right.
KAGISO
Atleast you have a rich father who will get you out...as for us we don't have that kind of support system.
THEO
Atleast I don't listen to a piece of s**t like you Kagiso. Now it makes sense why you all have been acting really suspicious whenever I'm with you. You know what happened to that man, the three of you.
KAGISO
A ko o didimale...
THEO
(Angrily)
Don't tell me gore ke didimale. F**k you...all of you. Nxa!
LAME
(Softly)
Theo please keep quiet. This is not helping.
THEO
Not helping who! What do you mean when you and Dema are bossed around by this low-life guy.
(Kagiso jumps up of his seat. Theo stands as well. The two shove each other.)
KAGISO
Don't call me a low-life. O batla go ntlwaela ne mona Theo!
LAME
Just stop please, the two of you! We are in a police station and you guys want to fight...
THEO
Didimala wena akere o ikanegile mo selong se...
(Points at Kagiso)
DEMA
Ah you need to take it easy...o buisa yo mongwe jang.
LAME
Guys just stop.
The quarrels continue, the standing guard officer opens the door and shuts them up. They take sits but with more spaces between them. It's as if the friendship is coming to an end as they all don't look at each other. Deep in their thoughts about what the detective just said to them. The three, Kagiso, Lame and Dema realise everything could have been different that night if they acted accordingly but it's too late now, lies on top of lies, betrayal. The trust is slowly vaporising between the friends.
I'm going to prison. It's all Lame is thinking.
I've let my grandmother down. It's all Dema is thinking...
I can't be a murderer, no ways...I didn't hit and run over that man! All Theo is thinking.
As for Kagiso, it's as if it has not hit him hard about going to jail. How he really feels about Theo is starting to show.
