RBDF ENGINEERING & TECHNICAL OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT RECOGNIZES TECHNICAL TRAINING GRADUATES
Defence Headquarters, 10 JUNE 26 (RBDF): The Engineering & Technical Operations Department hosted an awards presentation ceremony on 10 June 2026 to recognize eighteen (18) Marines for successfully completing the Technical Training Programme.
The programme is designed to provide technicians with practical, hands-on experience and operational knowledge applicable to real-world situations encountered throughout the Fleet. Unlike traditional academic courses, the programme does not include written examinations. Instead, emphasis is placed on practical competency, troubleshooting, and the application of technical skills in realistic operational environments.
Throughout the course, participants attend a series of instructional sessions and PowerPoint presentations delivered by experienced engineering subject matter experts. These presentations were complemented by extensive practical demonstrations and hands-on training exercises designed to reinforce technical proficiency.
The comprehensive curriculum covered a broad range of engineering and vessel-specific topics, including emergency generators, fire and bilge pumps, fuelling systems, shipboard procedures, hydraulic systems, navigation lights, firefighting equipment and procedures, towing operations, and general engineering practices across the Fleet. It also incorporated systems and equipment found aboard various classes of vessels, including the 60-metre and 32-metre patrol craft, ensuring that Marines gain familiarity with the diverse engineering requirements of the Fleet.
During the fourth week of the programme, Marines underwent practical assessments and evaluations, allowing them to demonstrate the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the training period. These assessments focused on real-life scenarios and operational challenges commonly encountered by technicians in the ex*****on of their duties.
Addressing the graduates, senior engineers commended them for their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to expanding their technical expertise. The successful completion of the programme reflects the Marines' determination to achieve excellence and their readiness to contribute to the operational effectiveness and maintenance capabilities of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force.
The awards presentation ceremony served as both a recognition of individual achievement and a testament to the Engineering & Technical Operations Department’s commitment to professional development and technical excellence. By investing in the growth and development our personnel, we maintain a highly skilled workforce capable of supporting the demands of modern maritime operations.
The Royal Bahamas Defence Force, under Commodore Moxey's leadership, is optimizing excellence by bridging generations and embracing modernization. As such, we congratulate all Marines on their successful completion of the technical training programme and look forward to the direct contribution this training will have on the operational effectiveness and mission readiness across the Fleet.
