Meet our first trainer, Illanga Frank Norbert from Tanzania 🇹🇿, who will be leading tomorrow’s workshop on dance at the Busuma refugee site in Ruyigi.

Frank serves as the Artistic Director of Arusha Dance company and is deeply dedicated to supporting vulnerable children. We are honored to have him contribute his passion and commitment to empowering refugee children and their families.

part of our work to child protection, Spring Communities is organizing a series of three-day art workshops, culminating in a presentation during the Isange celebration. This cultural event highlights the power of art as a tool for healing, expression, and resilience.

Three dedicated artists will guide participants throughout the workshops. Illanga Frank Norbert, artistic director of the Arusha Dance company from Tanzania, will lead the dance sessions. Shakabwa Chance, a visual artist, will lead the drawing workshops. Finally, Vianney acrobatique, a circus artist from the Nanje Nobaho Center, will lead the acrobatics activities.

These workshops aim to provide refugee children in the Busuma camp with a safe space for creation, healing, and recreation through various forms of artistic expression.

With the support of UNICEF Burundi, this initiative will allow children to express themselves freely, strengthen their self-confidence and rediscover moments of joy, while developing new skills in a caring and inclusive environment.

Displaced from their homes by conflict in eastern DR Congo, more than 11,000 children have sought refuge in Burundi at the Busuma site.

At Spring Communities’ Child-Friendly Space, around 600 children are welcomed each day. Here, they receive protection, psychosocial support, and opportunities to learn, grow, and begin to imagine a better future.

Yet urgent needs remain. The crisis continues to deepen due to escalating hunger, limited access to healthcare, and widespread malnutrition, among other challenges.

In partnership with UNICEF Burundi, we are working to ensure that every child—and every affected family—has access to safe, effective care and support.

Spring Communities is proud to have our Executive Director, .ruremesha , in Oxford, UK 🇬🇧 this week participating in side events around the Skoll World Forum, one of the world’s leading gatherings of social innovators driving systemic change.

Since last Monday, Hardy has been engaging with a global network of social entrepreneurs, funders, and partners—creating meaningful connections that unlock resources, scale impact, and accelerate collaborative action. These engagements are particularly critical as we deepen our work at the intersection of quality education, climate change, economic inclusion, and human rights.

Held annually, the Skoll World Forum continues to play a vital role in strengthening community action, bridging divides, and equipping leaders with the tools and partnerships needed to drive lasting, systemic impact.
