The renovation of a historic apartment building in Wilrijk, characterized by particular boundary conditions.
Designed as rental apartments for unknown future users, the interior provides a robust and neutral canvas, allowing occupants to personalise the spaces over time. The kitchen combines functionality with carefully considered details, such as a timber worktop that relates to the exterior wooden joinery, complemented by deep red ceramic tiles adding warmth and character.

The renovation of this historic apartment building in Wilrijk is characterized by particular boundary conditions, excellently displayed in this photo …
It is located at the interface between the Kiel district and the Den Brandt Park neighborhood, directly adjacent to the infrastructural corridor of the A12 and the Bevrijding Tunnel. This results in a highly metropolitan condition, where contrasting urban morphologies converge: high-rise structures, finer-grained continuous urban fabric, and detached villas in a green setting.

MADE works on projects on different scales and circumstances, choosing them based on the opportunities and challenges they present rather than their size our location.
The house is located on the outskirts of Brussels, in a typical Belgian setting along a noisy main road between buildings of varied character.
The desire for more natural light and spaciousness was addressed by reorganizing the circulation within the house and transforming the pitched roof. At the same time, the home was made future-proof through thorough insulation, both thermal and acoustic.
By adding large dormer windows and carefully selecting materials, the building acquires an almost abstract, graphic presence in the street.

Extension of a bel-étage townhouse in Mortsel.
The ground floor consists solely of window frames, visually connecting the interior and exterior spaces. The stepped volume not only connects to the neighbours but also relates the house to the relief of the landscape.
