Lower limb trauma: Free tissue Transfer

Lower limb injuries due to motor vehicle accidents are the major bulk of patients attending in all trauma centres. Open wounds following these injuries need management by multidisciplinary approach. After bone stabilization, management of soft tissue becomes a challenging task in many situations. Free tissue transfer( free flap) is a versatile technique for coverage of these complex wounds which can help early wound healing as well as to reduce complications.

This patient had soft tissue defect involving dorsum of foot exposing tendons and weight bearing heel area. An ALT free flap was planned according to template of the defect which adequately covered both the wounds.
