Old Dhaka city area is being fed electrical power from 1) Kamrangirchar and 2) Lalbagh Grid s/s. Near future it can be fed from the Postogola and 2) a portion of the load from New Ramna Grid s/s both of which are being constructed under a project. But the total capacity of these substations will not be adequate for power supply in the long future due to the increment load demand. Moreover, the location of these substations is not situated at the load centres of the old city area, for which 11 KV feeders become long and overloaded, making it difficult for quality and uninterrupted power supply. It becomes necessary to build a new Substation at the load centres of the area. One of the load centres of the old city area is Chalk Bazar and Bangshal area. DPDC had the plan to construct a new substation near Dhaka central Jail area. But due to nonavailability of necessary land at that area, it was not possible to include the plan in the ongoing project. DPDC has an 11KV switching station at jail area but its land is not adequate for construction even a 33/11 KV substation. Now an opportunity has come to get necessary land due to shifting of the central jail to Karaniganj.The Government has a plan to build new commercial buildings at the previous central jail area for which huge electrical power will be required. Without a new Grid substation, the required power supply to the future commercial project and future load demand of that area can not be met. Now It is time for DPDC to request appropriate authority of the Government for allocation of the required land describing the necessity for construction one Grid substaion inside the of old jail compound
