চাকরি হারানোর পর আমি সবার কাছে message পাঠিয়েছিলাম।
LinkedIn এ যাদের সাথে কখনো কথা বলিনি। College এর বন্ধু যে এখন বড় কোম্পানিতে আছে। সেই senior যে আমার পুরনো অফিসে আছেন। সবাইকে।

বেশিরভাগ message এ "seen" পড়ে থাকল।

কেউ কেউ উত্তর দিল — "দেখি কিছু করতে পারি কিনা।" সেই "দেখি" আর কখনো ফিরে আসেনি।

সেদিন আমি বুঝলাম, আমি networking করিনি। আমি strangers দের কাছে ভিক্ষা চেয়েছিলাম।

এটা তাদের দোষ ছিল না। আমার দোষ ছিল।

Networking মানে বিপদে সাহায্য চাওয়া না। Networking মানে ভালো সময়ে এমন সম্পর্ক তৈরি করা, যাতে বিপদে সাহায্য চাওয়ার দরকারই না পড়ে।

আমি ৩টা ভুল করেছিলাম যা আপনি করবেন না:
শুধু নিয়েছি, দিইনি: কারো post এ কখনো thoughtful comment করিনি। কারো কাজে কখনো সাহায্য করিনি। হঠাৎ বিপদে পড়ে চাইতে গেলাম। এটা relationship না, transaction।

Connect করেছি, কিন্তু কথা বলিনি: LinkedIn এ ৫০০+ connection ছিল। কিন্তু ৯০% মানুষ আমাকে চেনে না। Connection মানে network না।

শুধু same level এর মানুষের সাথে ছিলাম: Senior দের সাথে সম্পর্ক ছিল না কারণ তাদের কাছে যাওয়ার "কারণ" খুঁজে পেতাম না। কিন্তু career এ সবচেয়ে বেশি সাহায্য আসে যারা আপনার চেয়ে এক ধাপ এগিয়ে তাদের কাছ থেকে।

আজ আমার network সম্পূর্ণ আলাদা।

প্রতি সপ্তাহে কারো না কারো কাজে comment করি। কারো post শেয়ার করি কারণটা বলে। মাঝে মাঝে কাউকে ধন্যবাদ জানাই — কারণ ছাড়াই।

আমি এখন আর বিপদে পড়লে message পাঠাই না। বিপদ আসার আগেই মানুষ আমাকে চেনে।

Network তৈরি হয় দেওয়ার মাধ্যমে, চাওয়ার মাধ্যমে না।
