Bangladesh may raise top income tax to 35% from FY29

The government is considering a new tax slab for the super-rich: anyone earning above Tk1.5 crore annually could face a 35% tax rate, up from the current 30%.

⏹️ Officials say this could generate Tk4,000 crore extra revenue each year and help reduce inequality.
⏹️ Critics warn it may penalize honest taxpayers while leaving the shadow economy untouched.
⏹️ Transparency International Bangladesh supports the principle but stresses tackling tax evasion is key.

This proposal is expected to be tabled in June and, if passed, will apply for three years.

৩. প্রবৃদ্ধি: অক্টোবর '২৭ – ডিসেম্বর '৩০

​মূল লক্ষ্যসমূহ:
➡️ ২০৩০ সালের মধ্যে জিডিপি (GDP) প্রবৃদ্ধি ৮.৫ শতাংশে উন্নীত করা।
➡️ মূল্যস্ফীতি ৫ শতাংশের নিচে নামিয়ে আনা।
➡️ রাজস্ব আয় ৩ শতাংশ বৃদ্ধি করা।
➡️ ২০৩৪ সালের মধ্যে ট্রিলিয়ন ডলারের টেকসই অর্থনীতি গড়ে তোলা।
