Knowledge for Development Management (K4DM) Phase-II project has organized a finding-sharing session of the study on โTrade Finance Risk Managementโ on 10 June 2024 at NEC-2 Conference Room, Economic Relations Division (ERD), Dhaka. Dr. Shah Md. Ahsan Habib, Professor at Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) and consultant of the study presented the study's findings with the Head of Trades of commercial banks, practitioners from different trade bodies in Bangladesh and officials from government agencies related to trade policy formulation and implementation including trade finance e.g National Board of Revenue (NBR), Ministry of Commerce, SME Foundation, International Chamber of Commerce Bangladesh (ICCB) and Bangladesh Bank. Mr. Md Shahriar Kader Siddiky, Secretary, Economic Relations Division (ERD) chaired the session. Mr. Sohel Ibn Ali, Senior Program Manager, Embassy of Switzerland in Bangladesh and Ms. Sheela Tasneem Haq, Senior Governance Specialist, UNDP Bangladesh, also attended the session.
Mr. Siddiky opened the session with the background of the study, stressing that it will contribute significantly to ensuring the growth of Bangladeshโs international trade through managing trade finance risks in current practices, implementing comprehensive and more inclusive trade finance policies, and ensuring sustainable LDC graduation. Then, Dr. Habib presented the key recommendations and discussed the relevance of trade finance risk management with macroeconomic fundamentals in the LDC Graduation context.
The participants extensively discussed on the study findings and recommended actionable policy suggestions from their practical experience. Mr. A K M Sohel, Additional Secretary & Wing Chief (UN) and the National Project Director of the K4DM Phase-II project closed the session by thanking the Embassy of Switzerland and UNDP in Bangladesh for their extended involvement with ERD through the K4DM project in achieving a wider impact in the journey of LDC graduation of Bangladesh. He also welcomed the participants to engage in continuous discussion for ensuring effective and inclusive trade facilitation.

The Knowledge for Development Management (K4DM) Phase-II Project continues to organize regular meetings with authors, co-mentors, and mentors involved in policy paper preparation in collaboration with the Bangladesh Institute of Governance and Management (BIGM). These meetings are critical for refining policy papers with actionable solutions to key development challenges that Bangladesh may face in the coming years.
In addition, consultation meetings with stakeholders on key policy issues relevant to Bangladesh's LDC graduation are held regularly. These consultations have proven to be invaluable in shaping effective policies and strategies for sustainable development.
