THE MUSINGS OF AN ALCHEMIST

When I was young, I loved punk-rock. I especially loved punk-rock women.

I wanted to be them – a woman who dared to challenge all possible norms and stand in my own truth.

August 5th was my birthday, and whenever my birthday comes, I reminiscent the past and self-reflect.

And, well, the last 12 months since my last birthday have been … sh*tty.

For the first-time since turning 18, I am without a full-time job.

I felt like I was being cosmically punished.

I was told jump and I stood my ground.

I should have just followed the flock and kept my head down.

Except for the tincy fact, that I never really was a part of the flock.

I was always me and always moving forward.

Breaking the generational mould of middle-aged womanhood.

Opening myself to community and my voice.

Questioning and then rejecting norms.

Proudly becoming q***r.

All the while rooting myself in kindness and compassion.

Always coming back to the belief that we all can be and do better.

And if that’s not punk-rock, then I don’t know what is (right, Superman?)

So maybe it wasn’t a cosmic punishment, but a cosmic reminding.

That when life gives you lemons, you be punk-rock.

And you be damn proud of who you are and what your gray hairs and your flabby bellies are steering you into becoming!
