"Reconciliation Victoria Statement on One Nation
18 June 2026
Pauline Hanson’s National Press Club address yesterday made it clear that her divisive position on Australia’s social composition and culture is effectively unchanged from when she entered federal politics in 1996.
In the course of an address light on real policy and laden with grievances and at times threats, Senator Hanson restated the now-discredited figure of $30 billion as being spent on Indigenous programs and that under a One Nation government the National Indigenous Australians Agency would be scrapped. She also labelled Welcomes to Country ‘divisive’.
Senator Hanson attacked multiculturalism, stating that Australia ‘must be monocultural’ – while disingenuously denying that this was a racist position.
She singled out Muslims for particular criticism while also attacking other marginalised groups such as the trans community.
The overall impression is that Senator Hanson wants to take Australia back to the pre-1960s where only white Europeans are welcome and the truth of Australia’s First People’s history was swept under the rug.
If it wasn’t already apparent, it certainly is now, that a government of which One Nation is part would be disastrous for First Peoples and reconciliation as well as multicultural communities and members of the trans community.
Reconciliation Victoria is proud to stand with the First Peoples of this country and opposes One Nation’s ignorant, cruel and retrograde agenda."
