Beyond Theory with Practical Impact
Professor Kate Drummond recently returned from the 18th Asian Australasian Congress of Neurological Surgeons (AACNS), bringing together neurosurgeons, trainees, researchers, and multidisciplinary colleagues for a comprehensive scientific and educational program.
One of her many hats, Prof Drummond serves as President of the Asian Australasian Society of Neurological Surgeons (AASNS), with AACNS being a key event on the annual calendar.
Over the 4-day program, Prof Drummond delivered the Welcome Address and a range of topics, including:
🧠Building a Research-Led Brain Tumour Program
🧠Novel Clinical Trial Paradigms to Accelerate Progress in Neuro-Oncology
🧠The Secret Language of Glioma
🧠Are we losing the Art of Neurosurgery?
🧠I CARE: Neurosurgical Unity
🧠When Help Is Not Helpful
🧠World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) Education Committee Symposium
🧠Liquid Biopsy in Glioma Management of the Future (Dr Jordan Jones)
🧠XLIF, ATP or PTP: Pros and Cons of Technique (Dr Tanya Yuen)
This year’s Congress theme, Unity in Neurosurgery, emphasised the importance of collaboration and shared expertise, as reflected in the accompanying photo highlights.

Our research goes global - and it’s our people leading the way.
Last week, our clinicians and researchers were on the ground in the Netherlands at the 12th European Stroke Organisation Conference (ESOC), uniting with the stroke community on a world stage, exchanging data and real-world outcomes.
