POSITION > MUSCLE

A key principle to addressing movement issues is understanding that muscles are, by and large, slaves to position.

The skeleton acts, and the muscles react.

I rarely think in terms of which muscle is going to work when I'm addressing your deficit in movement, because that's going to first be dictated by the position you can create.

My goal is to use exercise variation to create a constraint that forces you to adopt a position where you have no choice but to use the appropriate muscles to achieve the desired outcome.

In each of these three squat variations:

1) Cannonball Squat
2) Hatfield Squat
3) Zombie Squat

The quads are the prime mover and take the bulk of the load - why then use any variation at all?

Because each of these places differing demands to the centre of mass, foot pressure, balance, and rib position relative to the pelvis.

My findings post-assessment will determine which variation of a movement I use with you to address your limitations.

If you're heavily extended and externally rotated, I won't select the same variation for you than if you were flexed and internally rotated - in either scenario I will address your squat pattern, but the positional demand will need to be relevant to you.

The bench press and deadlift are no different, nor is running, jumping, sprinting or landing - every issue is a positional issue first.

Your program will teach you how to move your body in space so that you can stop thinking about ephemeral and poorly explained concepts like mind-muscle connection, and simply get straight to working and innately feeling them.

Read this far and want help understanding and applying this in real time? I'm a DM away and am open for online & face to face coaching. Let's get to work 🙏

I know this Black Friday post is late.
I also know the Canva slides look like I made them in eight minutes while drinking an iced coffee.
Both of those things are true.

But the two offers are actually solid.

If you want face to face coaching with two coached sessions each week plus a program that makes sense, the Group Training intake is open.

If you want online coaching where you follow along with my weekly updated program for forty dollars a month, the Pursuit Performance Team is live too.

I might be late and the slides might be low effort, but the coaching will not be.

It's a great feeling to watch an athlete come into their own.

is building big momentum across her race times, and now building the confidence and belief to chase down some seriously audacious goals.

Six weeks ago she won a ballot for an entry into the Sydney marathon, only a week after her last Hyrox event.

She reached out and asked if I thought it was possible, and without a single hesitation I knew she had it in her to get it done.

Now at five days out, she's set massive personal best distances, managed stress and change, and just crushed her first half marathon to boot.

It's time to show Sydney what you're all about, buddy. Thanks for letting me be a part of this, and placing trust in the systems to get you there.

Over the weekend .reeves competed at APL drug-tested Nationals and absolutely brought the house down.

It's rare to see a plan executed so well, but it could not have come together better if we tried.

130kg Squat - National Record
67.5kg Bench - National Record
170kg Deadlift - National Record
367.5kg Total - National Record

A 9/9 day, with all 4 records now to her name, she heads back to Adelaide this week with her head held high.

Well done mate! Unbelievably proud of you.
