Chinese Mid-Autumn (Mooncake) Festival : On Wednesday 18 September from 1.05 pm to 2.30 pm, all are invited to join in celebrating the Chinese Mid-Autumn or Mooncake Festival in St Pats Crypt, after the Novena.
This is one of the most important festivals for Chinese people and has been observed for 2,000 years. Originating as a festival to celebrate the yearly harvest, it generated a lot of art and poetry in praise of the moon, which is at its roundest and brightest at this time. The round moon also symbolises family reunion as families gather around to eat a special round pastry called moon cakes and drink wine and tea under the light of the moon. Please bring a plate and come along to share the legends and folklore of this festival, and taste different types of mooncakes.
