“We laugh, we joke, and at the last meeting someone even led the group in song. There is such warmth in the room.”

Once a month, people living with dementia, families, loved ones and community members come together at Everton Park Library for the Brisbane North Dementia Sharing Circle.

The free, informal gathering is a chance to connect with others, share experiences and feel understood in a safe and welcoming space.

UnitingCare’s Emily Gould, from our Older Persons Programs, works alongside dementia doula Leah Keating (LK Dementia Doula Services), Dementia Australia and Brisbane City Council to support the group. While Leah facilitates the circle, the conversation is led by those who attend.

“My favourite part is seeing people relax when they realise they are in a place where they are understood, accepted and not alone,” Emily says.

The next Dementia Sharing Circle will be a Community Day, open to all.

Wednesday 24 June
10am to 12pm
Everton Park Library
No bookings required

What does a homelessness nurse actually do?

UnitingCare's homelessness nurse provides everyday healthcare many of us take for granted. From wound care, medication support, chronic condition management, and referrals, to follow‑ups.

They’re a consistent, trusted presence in a system that can feel hard to navigate.

Healthcare shouldn’t depend on having a fixed address.

On the Gold Coast, UnitingCare’s homelessness nurse provides practical, compassionate healthcare in the community. She's meeting people where they already are.

This approach helps remove barriers and makes care more accessible, respectful, and effective.
